Preparation and drying
Sorting and pre-drying reduce energy spent on water and make each cycle more predictable.
Carbonization and cooling
Temperature must rise in a controlled way, gases require an engineered combustion path, and charcoal must cool without air ingress.
Safe commissioning
Before loading, verify tightness, draft, gas ducts, sensors and procedures. Initial cycles tune the process to the feedstock.
Connect every stage into one production flow
Before choosing a kiln, map receiving, storage, preparation, loading, carbonization, cooling, grading and packaging. Assign space, equipment and responsibility to each stage. If preparation or cooling cannot keep up, increasing kiln capacity alone will not increase finished-product output.
Count saleable product and every cost
Record the feedstock mass and moisture, charcoal mass and saleable fraction after grading. Account for fines separately. Include preparation, heating fuel, electricity, labour, packaging and maintenance. Comparing charcoal weights without a consistent measurement basis can be misleading.
Record the first cycles
Keep a batch log covering feedstock source and size, loading pattern, sensor readings over time, stage durations and grading results. Agree acceptance criteria with the buyer. Several comparable cycles help the team understand the sequence and explain variations before regular production.
